Ted Harrison Painting : working with acrylics

Ted Harrison:

"Life is a rainbow road, multicoloured with the most brilliant hues and contrasting with the darkest tones. It is illuminated by the light of success, and rutted by the tracks of failure. Tears of sadness and joy wash its surface while the clouds of doubt and insecurity dapple its course. As we traverse this highway we can reach the highest pinnacles or descend to the darkest valleys.

Finally, when the end of the road is in sight, we may cast our eyes to the distant horizon where everything began; and say with conviction,
"That sure was one hell of a journey."— TED HARRISON

Watercolour Basics Grade 8

 Tips for Watercolour

1. Always use good materials and take care of your materials

2. Always add water to your paint or to your paper

wet on wet = allows the paint to move around

wet on dry = more control with the paint

more water = lighter colour

less water = darker colour

3. Do not paint up to the lines, but leave an edge of whitespace

4. When doing a wash, keep it light and leave whitespace for the eye to move around your piece

5. Start with light pencil as guidelines, then go over in ink if you like

6. Use your knowledge of colour theory when blending colours, blend on the table or palette

7. Play with colours, trees to not have to be green and brown, they could be pink and purple

8. When creating a watercolour, draw from an image not from your head

Assignment Art Trading Cards

Assignment #2: 9 Artist Trading Cards (marks 20)
We started this assignment before the break as an in-between assignment and so I think it is a great project to continue at home. Use whatever materials you have. The cards can be made by gluing paper or other materials on to an old deck of playing cards, or cut up an old cereal box ( perfect card stock material) or use watercolour paper or simply regular drawing paper.  You can work in whatever medium you like: watercolour, pencil drawings, collage, pen and ink, acrylic paint, or mixed media

What are artist trading cards?
Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5".

How did the movement start?
In 1997, M. Vanci Stirnemann, a Swiss artist, created 1200 cards by hand as part of an exhibit. On the last day, he invited others to create their own cards and trade with him during the closing reception. The movement took off, and today, there are ATC swaps in almost every major city around the world. There are also many online swaps.

How do I create ATCs?
Most swaps are open to any media, materials or techniques as long as the card fits into a standard trading card sleeve. ATCs are traded, not sold. However, there are some artists who choose to sell cards. Cards that are sold are called Art Card Editions and Originals (ACEO).

Assignment: Create 9 art cards, you can work in any medium you like, and use what you have on hand. Due Friday May1  Marks: 20. Send me a photo on Teams or by email to : lisa.chase@sd71.bc.ca

TERM 4: Put Your Heart in Art: Assignment #3

Photo: Avarie Dennis

Assignment #3: We are in a time where we all have to pull together and dig deep into our hearts to understand others and to have compassion for the difficulties that some people may be going through.
In this assignment you are going to create a heart somewhere in your art, or the entire piece can be a heart. You may want to even give your art away to show gratitude or love for someone who might currently need some support. This assignment is wide open to work in any medium with any art materials you might have at home.

I would like to create either a video or virtual art gallery of our HEART ART to share on this blog. Take a good quality photo of your creation. This assignment can be sent to me through TEAMS or by email to lisa.chase@sd71.bc.ca. Due: Friday May 15 Marks 20.
